A Fun Day of Visiting!

So we had a great day of just hanging out and visiting. Dave and Jenn and their cute little Brooks are visiting with us this weekend from D.C. and it has been great to be with family! We had a great time chatting and laughing and spending the day together. There is a great big waiting room on floor 3 that we had all to ourselves (since it's the weekend) with fun stuff for Brooks to do and a change of scenery for Jared. Jared's has been out of his room quite a bit today, which has been good for all of us. Here are some more pictures of the day -

Jared's walking better everyday.
Below are pictures of having fun in the waiting room.
These gigantic blocks are one of Andrew's favorite toys!

Cute Brooks had a great time as well.

Here is Jared loving Jenn's homemade zucchini bread. Thank you Dave and Jenn for coming this weekend! We loved it!

At the end of Jared's nap this afternoon we had a surprise visit from Chris Hoke. He is the nose tackle for the Superbowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers! He and his son came to visit Jared and gave him a Pittsburgh Steelers teddy bear. It was very nice of them to come and visit and we owe it all to our friend Shirley, who works with my Dad, who set it all up.

Jared has done great today. Like it was said in the post yesterday, Jared just gets better and stronger everyday. I think tomorrow we will get a better idea of how things will pan out for the rest of our stay and how much longer.

The optimism of children is amazing. We were kneeling around Jared's bed tonight discussing how much we missed Bradley and Elle when I made the comment, "It wouldn't be so bad if they could be here with us, like a vacation." Andrew then turned to Jared and asked him jokingly if it has been a vacation for him. He replied a very serious, "Yes". Andrew asked, "even the surgery?" Jared's reply was, "not that part, but everything else." If only we could all look at life like this.

  1. Jared is looking so good, and Andrew looked like he was in heaven in the blocks. Glad to see you guys getting a little break with friends and family stopping by to say hello. We miss you and wish we could come and visit too.

  5. Well, Jared's optimism and amazing improvements the last few days certainly puts joy in my heart and a big "thank you" goes to our Father in Heaven, who obviously has been close at hand. I was so happy when the "Cookie Test" was successful and oh, those "Jared Smiles" do warm your heart. I'm not surprised that optimism is second nature to Jared...look at his parents whose very genes he carries. Hats off to Jaime and Andrew who have handled this whole situation extremely well making it much easier for the rest of their families and friends. How fun to have David, Jen and little Brooks come for a visit. What a cutie Brooks is. I hope Andrew shared those big blocks with him. Well, time to get ready for work. I can't believe the week-end is over so fast. Much love to all of you.....Jared You Rock!!! (just like your Daddy does) Jaime, I love you and your family.

  6. Primary was very touching. The children continue to pray for Jared and your family.
We discussed the power of prayer and how through their faith and prayers Jared is improving. Thank-you for sharing this difficult time in your lives. It has touched the hearts of so many. The children in the Cent 11th ward have been a witness of our Heavenly Father's love for each of us. He does hear and answer prayers. Hope to have all of you back in Primary soon. WE MISS YOU ALL.

  8. I am sitting here in awe that this little boy, who just a bit over a week ago had a tumor removed from/near his brain, is now walking, eating, breathing, and playing on his own. It is truly a miracle.

  9. I just want to thank you guys for doing this blog! I love checking in each morning to see how the Vances are doing. That little Jared of yours is just incredible! Giving his Dad thumbs up when he couldn't even talk, and saying that it's been a vacation--what an amazing outlook on it all! We are so glad that things have gone well this far. Brinley prays for "Little Jared"--I hope she will meet him sometime soon and realize that "Little Jared" is a lot bigger than her. You are in our thoughts and prayers always. We love you.
