Hey everyone, it's Jaime. Just wanted to post on the latest of our Jared. Last night and this morning Jared has been writing notes to us. He has been so frustrated w/ his breathing tube. Yesterday he was pretty groggy most of the time, we could pretty much get by w/ yes and no questions, but he seems to be getting more and more awake. Last night he was trying to ask us things, and would get frustrated when we couldn't understand. He would do a little sign language, then it turned into spelling the word out in mid-air, then we were able to get a pad of paper and a marker and it's been a lot better since he is able to write out his questions.
I posted a picture of some of his notes. The breathing tube is his big frustration. This morning he wrote, "I just can't breathe." The nurse said, "when you are awake it really does feel like breathing through a straw", so we just try to calm him down and have him sleep more, again the nurse was going to check w/ the Drs. about changing his pain medicines. He's also complained of the neck collar bugging him (I'm sure everything is bugging him), so we tried to give him a little break this morning from wearing it. Poor guy. He is being a sweetheart though, he's had a few tears roll down his face - Andrew really does a good job explaining why we have to do all these things and have all these things in his body and is able to calm Jared down well. One of Jared's notes was how many more days did he have to have the breathing tube in. The nurse and I told him just one more day - that this would be the last day. Then his next note was, how much is left of today. He means business - he wants this thing out! :)

Oh Jared, I hear your frustration. We love you so much and will pray that the rest of the day goes quickly so tomorrow will come faster....Hang in there buddy. We love you so much....Grandma
ReplyDeleteDear Jaime and Andrew, You are dealing with a very bright and "with it" 7 year old. You are wise to be encouraging but very honest. With a lot of treatment ahead, he needs to know that you are giving him "the real story". I am amazed how clearly and technically correct your blogs are. Be the same way with Jared. He can handle it, but don't sugar coat it or he'll lose trust. He is blessed wih wise parents and as well as great doctors. All our love, Grandpa Beck
ReplyDeleteAndrew & Jaime,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for these regular posts. With you so far away, it is so good to know how things are going. We are so blessed to live in a day with so much technology available to us, but that doesn't replace the prayers & faith! We love you all so much & pray for you always. Please let Jared know, that he is our Super Hero! What an amazing kid! What amazing parents! :) Love, The Esplins
this is ty, Jared you are the bravest cousin I know. I know you want to get out of there, I want you to get out of there to, so we can play. I hope you get better soon. you are the strongest cousin I know and you are the best super hero ever. i love you, from Ty.
ReplyDeleteOkay, the notes Jared wrote made my eyes brim with tears, but then when Jaime wrote about the tears rolling down his face, that's exactly what my tears did. What a precious, sweet and still very tough boy he is. He probably can't hardly remember me. It's been way too long since I've seen him. But if he remembers just a little bit, tell him Auntie Judy is very proud of him and loves him so much. Tell him he so blessed to have such awesome parents and family. Tell him also, that there are friends and family all over the country reading about everything that's happening to him every day. As for me,
ReplyDeleteI read about him the last thing at night, the first thing in the morning and whenever I can throughout the day. The next couple of days will most likely be the worst ones for him. Anyway, that's what I know about having surgeries and I've had a lot in the last few years. I'm sure I know what I'm talking about even though I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on T.V. but in addition to my own experiences I have had extensive over-the- phone training from one of the best. I'm sure you've heard of Dr. Stephen A. Beck. Love to all, Judy
Dan and I sat here this morning reading this post with tears in our eyes. What a sweet innocent child that has to deal with such an adult situation. I worked 5 years as and RN in adult ICU and he is handling this much better than most grown men... what a strong little guy. It sounds like he is in great hands. You are great parents. I am not sure I could be so composed and as faithful as you have been. You are living one of my greatest fears with such strength. Thank you so much for the updates on your blog. With love, The Stubbs

You're helping all of us get closer to our Heavenly Father and Jesus. Those who can fast are fasting again for you today. We are praying for you at every prayer and in our hearts all day long every day. We hope you can feel our love for you. Like your Grandma Beck, we hope and pray that today will go quickly for you and that the discomfort that you are feeling will diminish quickly. We know that Heavenly Father is watching over you and He is answering our prayers. He loves you so much, Jared, and is so proud of you. We're proud of you too and are so blessed to be part of your family. Hang in there!!!

Oh that is so cute! I love the hand written notes. What a great sign and we are so proud of him. Jared, what a brave and strong kid. You are amazing. It's not easy to put up with all those tubes and wires, and crazy gowns, it all turns into a big spaghetti bowl pretty quick, but your tough and only another day and you can be back playing Mario. We're excited to see you soon. Love you buddy.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Dave, Jenn, & Brooks

ReplyDeleteAndrew - It is good to hear that Jared is doing well. I know that many of us from work are following his progress and hoping and praying for continued success.
ReplyDeleteNow about that BYU comment....I will let it slide for now but when BYU whips the U this fall, your office will be a mess of blue and white.
We will try again. Our hearts are touched as we read these incredible updates. Jared is definitely a super hero and a sweetheart rolled into one. We love you dear Jared. We pray for you all through the day and you are in our thoughts constantly. Heavenly Father is in charge and has given us all so many "tender mercies" and miracles these past couple of weeks. Miracles that you have such a strong and determined spirit, miracles that you are where you are receiving the best care possible, miracles that we understand and science and medicine sometimes wonder how, miracles of family, friends, love, support, prayers, fasting, and faith. Your notes touched our heart and Grandma's tears came quickly to the surface just thinking about your tenderness. We love you and look forward to being able to hug you in person. You are such a brave little man and have parents who have taught you about who you are. You are a child of God, Jared, and He knows you, He knows your name, He knows all you are feeling and is there blessing you and your mommy and daddy and Elle and Bradley. Keep happy thoughts! May the day pass quickly, too!!! Love and KissesXOXGrandpa and Grandma Vance
